Psalmopoeus irminia
Psalmopoeus irminia
Psalmopoeus irminia is probably one of the most popular tree dwellers among tarantulas. Due to its black base color and the orange flashes on the legs, P. irminia is a true beauty.
As spiderlings, the animals often burrow into the ground to protect themselves from predators. Even as adults, the living tubes often extend into the ground to create temperature ranges, which is why the substrate height should be a good 5-10 cm. The living tubes are usually camouflaged with the substrate.
During the day they usually hide in their living tube, but as soon as it gets dark they often sit at the tube entrance or even completely out of the tube and wait for food to come by.
Psalmopoeus irminia is very fast but usually prefers to flee rather than attack. The terrarium should not offer any opportunity to escape, as P. irmina are true escape artists.
