The walking leaf is probably one of the best-known phasmids.
The females of Phyllium tobeloense galela grow up to 10cm tall and are therefore one of the larger representatives of the genus Phyllium. They have large cover wings that lie on the abdomen and can be colored differently from green to yellow to reddish and brown. The males are always green, are up to approx. 6cm smaller and have a significantly narrower stature. Male walking leaves can fly, whereas female animals are too massive and therefore unable to fly.
Phyllium tobeloense feeds mainly on blackberry leaves, which are easy to find almost everywhere. To feed, you simply place the blackberry branches in a vase with water in the terrarium. If necessary, the old branches are replaced with fresh ones.
Important!
Cover the water surface of the vase or the container from the blackberry branches to protect the animals from drowning!
