Hadrurus arizonsis, hairy desert scorpion
Hadrurus arizonsis, or the Great Texas scorpion, is a scorpion from the southwest of North America. The Sonoran Desert in particular is his homeland. Hadrurus arizonsis can grow up to 15cm in a terrarium, which is why the terrarium should have the minimum dimensions of 60x30x30cm. Diggable sand, preferably with clay content for extensive digging to build caves, is another requirement. Stones or bark are often used as hiding places.
With enough space and a sufficient supply of food, H. arizonensis can also be kept in a group.
During the winter months the animals hibernate. During this time you should reduce the temperature to 5-10°C.
Although the venom of Hadrurus arizentrisis has no systemic effect, it is extremely potent. After a sting, you can expect long-lasting, severe pain, which in turn can cause severe reactions from the autonomic nervous system, from dizziness and nausea to hyperventilation and even circulatory collapse. You should therefore proceed with the necessary caution when carrying out any work on the terrarium! Nevertheless, Hadrurus arizonsis is considered to be less poisonous.
