Grammostola pulchripes
Grammostola pulchripes
Grammostola pulchripes have a black base color with ocher hairs. The patellae of this species are usually beige to golden (from which it gets the name golden-knee tarantula).
They reach a body length of up to 8 cm.
Grammostola pulchripes is characterized by a peaceful and calm nature; they only use their stinging hairs to defend themselves in the event of particularly strong irritation.
Grammostola pulchripes comes from Paraguay and Argentina. It is ground-dwelling, burrows in the cold season and spends most of its time underground. This should also be taken into account when setting up the terrarium. We recommend keeping them at a substrate height of 10cm. The soil can be kept slightly moister to create better digging conditions for the tarantula.
The terrarium should have a minimum size of 40 x 30 x 30 cm. During the day the temperature can be around 28 °C, but at night this should be reduced to around 18 - 22 °C. We recommend making sure that the temperature does not fall below 15 degrees, otherwise this could cause the tarantula to go into hibernation.
